| Welcome to the Great Notley Parish Council
website. This website has been designed by the
councillors and their community to be a resource
for everyone living in and visiting our Parish.
Great Notley Garden Village, or simply Great
Notley as it is known, is a suburban development,
mostly built by Countryside Properties on
the fringe of Braintree, Essex, England with
an approximate population of 5,500.
It legally became an independent parish on
1 April 2000 as a result of The Great Notley
Parish Council Order 2000.
The Parish comprises of seven hamlets:
- Cut Hedge
- London Road (West)
- Notley Green
- Oaklands Manor
- Panners Farm
- Slamseys Farm
- White Court
As a development it has won numerous awards
for the sensitivity of the architecture, including
the Braintree Environmental Heritage Award,
Environmental Initiative Award for 'The Discovery
Centre', Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Award,
Best Kept Village in Essex as part of the
1998 National Village of the Year awards,
and two gold “What House” awards.
It is now listed by SEEDA as an example of
Best Practice in combining modern housing
development with the natural environment.
